Despite being an old tradition dating back to 1990, April 20, also known as "420 day," is now more popular than ever, even in countries where cannabis is still illegal or frowned upon. Looking into the April 20 events this year can be overwhelming, especially if you live in a legal state or country, as there are countless options available to you.
From the most historic 420 celebrations such as Hippie Hill in San Francisco to smoke-outs at Hyde Park in London and most recently, the 420 day Berlin smoke-in at the Brandenburg Gate which is getting bigger and bigger due to the German government recently announcing plans for legalizing cannabis. It doesn’t matter where you live, you’ll definitely find local gatherings with hundreds if not thousands of visitors, great acts on stage, and lots of ganja to smoke.
April 20 is a special day that holds a unique meaning for cannabis enthusiasts across the globe. The date has now turned into a symbol of the plant that has brought so much joy, relief, and inspiration to so many people, and has become a day when cannabis enthusiasts all around the world come together to celebrate in honor of our so beloved plant.
Although the most accepted theory is that in 1971, five high school students used the term "4:20" in connection with a plan to search for an abandoned cannabis crop, the true origins of 420 remain shrouded in mystery, leading to many myths and speculations such as 420 being the police radio code for marijuana smoking in progress, that 420 is the number of compounds found in cannabis and even that April 20 was the date Bob Marley died and declared it a commemorative date in honor of the legendary reggae artist.
While we might never know exactly how, why, and when the term was invented, one thing is certain: it’s a date to be celebrated. April 20 marks a very special day, a day where stoners all around the globe come together and celebrate in honor of this plant which has been a source of relief for some, inspiration for others, and, for many of us, a way to enjoy life a little more fully. Yet, 4/20 also serves as a reminder of the struggle and sacrifice of those who have fought for us to be where we are at.
Let’s keep pushing forward, breaking down stigmas, and advocating for cannabis, responsibly and with respect, but always with a big fat joint and a smile from ear to ear.
So here's to April 20! May you all have a blessed day with family and friends, and stay safe! We wish you the best, sincerely,
Fast Buds
